Tonight at 10 pm, MTV airs a documentary on Demi Lovato, the singer who famously checked herself into a rehabilitation facility in the middle of one of the biggest tours of her career. It’s not the first time she talks about why, but it certainly is the most in depth and personal account. Now, being slightly older than most of Demi’s fans, I hadn’t really paid the story much attention. Another pop star gone astray, another sad story…it’s nothing new. But I was blown away after watching this documentary. You’ll see for yourself what it looks like when a celebrity actually strips down and goes off script. It’s so painfully honest and Demi’s star status has so little to do with her story. Maybe that’s why so many girls will connect to this tonight, even if you’ve never bought one of her albums. It’s the story of millions of girls around the country who wake up every day and actually hate themselves in the mirror and hate so intensely that they can barely get themselves dressed or to school. They hate their bodies so intensely that eating is out of the question and the only control they feel is when they harm themselves or drug themselves out of the pain.
